Revit AI · AIR panel · For BIM modellers
You enter four values. The AIR panel reads the client's AIR workbook and writes the other 27 parameters on rooms, spaces and assets. Each run shows you a preview before it changes the model.
Fill these after AIR Setup, because Setup adds the parameters to the model. Leave everything else to the tool.
| On | Parameter | Example | Where to find the value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rooms and spaces | Number (Revit's own) | MCR31, BED507 | Room tag on the as-built drawing |
| Rooms and spaces | Unit Number | SERVC, COMMN, SVHTS, 00401 | AIR workbook, tab 10 |
| Assets | System Code | ACS | AIR workbook, tab 12 |
| Assets | Equipment Code | ACP | AIR workbook, tab 13, under that system |
| Only if the Number is digits | Room Code | MCR | AIR workbook, tab 11 |
MCR31 already means room code MCR, number 31. The first three letters of the Number must be a room code from tab 11.
Enter MCR31 in Revit's Number. The AIR parameter Room Number is written by the tool and holds 31.
Use the Data panel. Export to Excel, fill the columns, then Import from Excel and check the changes before you apply them.
A part nested inside a family counts as part of its host, so only the host needs codes.
.xlsx) somewhere the path won't change. The model remembers this path.LF-108-HOTL-BF4.Each button opens its form in the AI Panel. Rooms and Assets work the same way. Click Preview, read the list of changes and problems, then click Apply.
Pick the AIR workbook and enter the project codes. For KAFD 108 that is Zone LF, Zone name Leaf, Parcel 108, Structure code HOTL.
Keep Add missing AIR parameters ticked. Click Check setup, read the report, then Apply. The settings are saved in the model and the parameters are added.
Fill the four values from the table above. Rooms and spaces need Number and Unit Number. Assets need System Code and Equipment Code.
Leave Which on both and the scope on the whole model. Click Preview, then Apply.
Leave the categories empty to cover every AIR asset category. Click Preview, then Apply. Assets take their location from their room or space, so Rooms must run first.
Fill empty System/Equipment Codes from type names is off by default. It only fills unambiguous names, and you should still check them.
Click Audit. It lists every problem with what to do about it. Set Save report as for an Excel list with element ids. Fix what it finds using the table below, run Rooms and Assets again, then audit again.
Click Export. Every AIR parameter of every room, space and asset goes to Excel, in <model> AIR.xlsx next to the model unless you choose another path. Use it for checking or handover.
Examples use room MCR31 in unit SERVC on level BF4, with an access control panel inside it.

Each System and Equipment pair has its own sequence. It runs up the building, then by room, then across the plan.
The tool looks for a space, then a room, on the asset's own floor. Spaces from another floor, such as ramps, count only if nothing on its own floor holds it.
If the model keeps Parent Asset Code, Asset Type, Asset Classification or Asset System Code as type parameters, the tool writes them to the type.
The tool keeps the Asset Description you chose. If there is none, it takes the row that best matches the family and type name.
AIR Clear removes generated codes. The next AIR Assets run then renumbers every asset from 1. We are keeping the client's existing numbers on KAFD 108, so leave it alone on those models. It never removes your own entries.
Valid Asset Codes stay as they are, and new assets continue after the highest number. A rerun on a finished model changes nothing.
After changing a Number or Unit Number, or moving an asset, run AIR Rooms and then AIR Assets.
Apply writes everything it can. Elements with a blocking error are skipped, and the audit lists them.
Parent Asset Code belongs to the type, so two codes on one type gives a conflict. Recode the elements or split the type.
| The audit says | Result | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| No System Code or Equipment Code | Skipped | Fill both from tabs 12 and 13. |
| XYZ-ABC isn't a System + Equipment pair | Skipped | The Equipment Code belongs to another system, and the audit names it. Correct the System Code. |
| No room Number, or Number has no room code | Skipped | Give it the Number from the as-built drawing. If the Number is only digits, fill Room Code. |
| Room code isn't in the AIR workbook | Skipped | Check the Number against the drawing and tab 11. |
| No Unit Number | Skipped | Fill it, or tick Fill suggested Unit Numbers in AIR Rooms and check the result. |
| Unit Number isn't a code the workbook allows | Skipped | Use a code from tab 10. |
| Level has no AIR floor code | Skipped | Rename the level so its last part is a floor code from tab 09, such as …-BF4. |
| Not inside any room or space | No location | Move the asset inside a room or space, or add the missing space in the MEP model. |
| Its room or space has no Location Code | No location | Run AIR Rooms in the model that holds that room or space. |
| Not enclosed (no area) | No location | Close the boundary. In an MEP model, load the architectural link with Room Bounding on. Assets in this room or space can't be located until then. |
| Marked "Not in Use" in the AIR workbook | Review | Ask the client whether this asset should be coded. |
| Space X sits in architectural room Y | Review | The two Numbers differ. Check both against the drawing and renumber the wrong one. |
| Parent Asset Code is needed as "A" by some and "B" by others | Review | One family type has two Equipment Codes. Give its elements one code, or split the type. |
| Location Code is also another element's | Review | Two rooms share a Number on one floor and unit. Renumber one from the drawing. |
| Asset Code is also another element's | Review | Run AIR Assets. Duplicates get new numbers. |
| Not up to date | Review | Run AIR Rooms, then AIR Assets. |
| Some AIR parameters are missing | Review | Run AIR Setup again. |
Models with unit elements in their own category also have AIR Units in the AI Panel's Tools tab. Most models don't need it, because rooms carry the Unit Number.
